School board may have violated open meeting law

STEVENS POINT,Wis(WSAU) The Stevens Point Board of Education did not give proper notice of a board meeting held last January. They were supposed to fax a notice of their special meeting on January 10th to the local newspaper. They didn't, in an apparent violation of open meetings law.

That special meeting was were the three finalists for school superintendent were interviewed.

Not giving notice was apparently an administrative mistake. A secretary forgot to send the fax to the newspaper.

Normally, actions taken at a meeting that wasn't properly noticed are not valid. Since that meeting the school board hired interim superintendent Attila Weninger as its permanent superintendent.
