INDIANAPOLIS (WIBQ) - It was called "Operation Hoosier Thunder" and was designed to concentrate on illegal marijuana growing on public and even federally owned land. Now, authorities say the combined effort of federal, state and local authorities was successful. In fact, since the operation began on September 23rd almost $50 million worth of pot has been removed across the state.

The largest grow, 7516 plants was discovered in Jackson County, in the Hoosier National Forrest. The effort has also brought the arrest of 20 people. This operation was funded through the Domestic Cannabis Eradication and Suppression Program (DCE/SP) Grant. The money to fund the effort came from a grant through the U.S. Department of Justice and the DEA and is utilized to combat illegal marijuana grow operations.
