TERRE HAUTE (WIBQ) - The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory until 8PM local time today for Champaign, Clark, Clay, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, and Vermillion counties in Illinois, and for Clay, Fountain, Greene, Montgomery, Owen, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vigo, and Vermillion counties in Indiana.

The National Weather Service is predicting high temperatures around 92 degrees for many areas across the Wabash Valley, with heat indices climbing between 100 and 105 degrees, especially this afternoon.  Temperatures should cool down late this evening as showers and thunderstorms are expected tonight.

If you have to be outdoors today, remember to wear light colored clothing, drink plenty of water, and take frequent breaks.  If you know of elderly neighbors or family members, please check on them.  Also, be sure to bring inside pets that are usually left outdoors.

In addition to the heat, the entire Wabash Valley is in a "slight" risk for severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and early evening.  Storms could produce heavy rain, frequent lightning, small hail, and possibly a tornado.
